There Is Only So Much Footballing Joy To Go Around
This Sunday the Veteran Old Stars (Old Farts, Casuals or whatever the hell they are called) won the 2nd Division of the Bristol Casual League, thus gaining promotion to the top flight.”There is no such thing as an easy game” said man of the match Paul Cupis who put four past Stroudies in the 11 – 0 (yes, eleven to nil) annihilation. Molly also put four past a team who were described as a “good side”.
The Casuals now have a cup semi-final to look forwards to against Easton Monday on Sunday May 3rd at AXA kick-off 10:30am. On that same day the Sunday Team will be playing Hanham FC in the Final of the Sid Rumins Cup at Manor Farm FC (On the Portway) kick-off 3pm. So, why not make a double cup day of it and support both teams before going to The Plough to see Geoffrey Oi!Cott.
If both of these cups are won and the Saturday B Team and the Sunday Team win their leagues it will be 5 dollops of footballing joy for the 2008-2009 season.

The Copa Sandino is a sponsored, charity five-a-side football tournament which raises money to support solidarity and development projects in Nicaragua.. Each team is asked to send us a cheque for £50 as a non-refundable deposit and minimum contribution made out to “BLINC”. Sponsor forms and info will be sent out on receipt of this payment. Players are expected to raise at least £10 per person.

Some Local Events
Dawn who sometimes plays Basketball is organising some Shiatsu massage classes at Easton Community Centre. On offer is a four week course for £40: 7pm to 9pm Thursday evenings, April 9th, 16th, 23rd and 30th. If you are interested get in touch with Dawn – dawn.shiatsu@yahoo.co.uk.
Dawn adds that “You will be fully clothed at all times and the treatments will be given in mostly standing or sitting position.”
Bristol Radical History Group have been released information about their Spring collection. There are two events in April:
- Fri. 3rd April – Nowtopia . Chris Carlsson acclaimed author, activist and founder of the Critical Mass bicycling movement in San Francisco explains how, as capitalism continues its inexorable process of global enclosure, new practices are emerging that are redefining politics. People are taking back their time and technological know-how from the market in small under-the-radar ways, and in doing so are establishing the foundation for a genuine movement of liberation from the market.
- Mon. 20th April – Hillsborough: What Really Happened? This April is the 20th anniversary of the Hillsborough football disaster which killed 96 Liverpool fans and injured hundreds more. Twenty years on, few people know what actually happened and the (now admitted) lies told by the Police to the press at the time remain many people’s memory of events. With Sheila Coleman of the Hillsborough Just Campaign, David Goldblatt author of the best book about football ever written (The Ball Is Round) and Daniel Bennett eye-witness and barrister.
Find a out more about these events on the BRH website.
