Justin Campaign Tournament

Posted by on Apr 21, 2013 in Tours/Tournaments | 0 comments

The Justin Campaign was founded to demonstrate that ten years after Justin Fashanu’s tragic suicide in 1998, homophobia is still hugely prevalent in both grassroots and professional football.

Along with raising awareness the campaign has a strong focus on Art, Events, Education and football. Through these four key initiatives and some forward thinking strategic work with other inclusive sporting organisations, The Justin Campaign seeks to challenge the stereotypes and misconceptions that exist around LGB & T (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Trans) people and work towards a future where the visibility of LGB & T people in football is both accepted and celebrated.

Red Trousers Come To Easton

Posted by on Apr 12, 2013 in Community News | 0 comments

From thisisBristol (i.e. The Evening Post):

Following the disturbances in Easton on Monday evening the Mayor of Bristol, George Ferguson, said he wanted to have a debate with activists and the wider community of Easton to find out why this happened.

One week on The Post has organised a debate at Easton Community centre between Mr Ferguson and Richard Lloyd who was at the party. I would like to invite community leaders to take part in the debate looking at why it happened in Easton, what the wider impact has been and the way forward. This is not meant to be a debate about pro/anti Margaret Thatcher views though, inevitably, this will come up in some form.

The top table will be filmed on the request of Mr Lloyd, and the video published on our website This is Bristol. The Post will also send a reporter and photographer along to write up the story for Tuesday’s paper.

Once again I can only reiterate that this is not a pro/anti Thatcher debate, but an open discussion on Easton, it’s community and the way forward.

Venue: Easton community centre

Date: 15th April 2013

Time: 8-9pm

Confirmed: Mayor of Bristol George Ferguson, Richard Lloyd

Rage In The Cage

Posted by on Apr 10, 2013 in Diary, Events News | 0 comments

Following on from the success of football and netball events at Easton Community Centre, the cricket boys are getting a 6-a-side tournament together on May 6th, bank holiday Monday. Games will be a faster pace than you’ve seen before! It’s a publicity event to generate some new players, a fresh drive and a bit of cash to help us out, as the rain last season hit us hard financially (we still have ground costs when games are continuously rained off).

Its gonna be a family-friendly day, and we’re hoping for a mixed up team or 2 from the wider club as well as outside teams. There’ll also be a drinks bar, food, sophisticated tea and cakes and stuff for kids as well as the usual tomfoolery that these EC shenanigans provide!! Look out for more details coming soon on EC website and message boards!

The sun is coming and bring on the cricket!

Tristan Da Cunha

Posted by on Feb 18, 2013 in Tours/Tournaments | 0 comments

We have been invited to play football on Tristan Da Cunha, a small volcanic island with a population of about 275. It sits in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean halfway between South Africa. It has no airport and being a 7 day boat journey from Capr Town it claims to be the most remote inhabited island in the world.

Interestinly until modern times there was not hierachy on the island and until a fish canning factory was set up there they did not use money either.

If you want to find out more Ian Bone wrote an article on the island a few years ago.
