Corscomb Off
Unfortunately due to rain and more forecast rain the Cricket Team’s Corscomb trip has been cancelled. There is a slim posibiolity that if the weather can hold out there will be a friendly on Sunday against Keynsham.
And so the Cricket season finishes with a little whimper. But what is this? Winter cricket? There will be winter nets starting in early November and Rob is once again entering a team into the indoor league which starts quite soon.
Salty’s Match Report
Lucky Seven at Whitchuch by Little Brian Salt Aged 8 ½ (honest), all his own work
The intrepid band of Cowboys (A.K.A Easton Outlaws) travelled south to take on the might og a Whitchurch team comprising 50/50 promising young steers/old hands (plus I W.O.E League ringer handicapped by a complete night of alcohol and no sleep – sounds ideal Cowboys material especially as he hit 5 sixes).
The Cowboys innings started with a disaster in the first over as Justin took a quick single to find that Higgy had not moved. Drawing aside the alcohol curtains Higgy then went on to make amends with a jug avoiding 98. Stroddy (10), Mark (19) and Angelo (45) contributed to a total of 213.
After a little drizzle and excellent tea the “Outlaws” took to the field. Higgy and DC2 opened the bowling, DC2 with 1 wicket for 17 in his first spell and Higgy with, once again, a jug avoiding 3 wickets (including a hat-trick ball but no hat-trick) for 4 runs. Evan (21.1), Wayne (19.1), Ben Salt (29.2) restricted the score to the point where they needed over 10 and over in the last 10, the attack then paused allowing Whitchurch to press on but the end was insight when Ben bowled Captain Brian Eves on 45. Higgy came back to take a further wicket to total a jug avoiding 4 wickets for 15 runs. With the opposition needing 50 runs Captain Bri Bowled the last over in failing light conceding 3 runs thus bringing his motley crew to 7 wins from 7 games. Can we make it 8 at Corscomb next week? Well we’re not scared!

Higgy’s Hints On Jug Avoidance
On reaching 90 hit every ball in the air, if this fails hit it straight to able looking fielder.
After 2 wickets in two balls make sure the point fielder is just out of range of a catch.
After 4 wickets Bowl to the other team’s ringer allowing him to hit you for a 6 and a 4 to make it look convincing.
On ending the game as M.O.M resume hangover.
A Couple Of Stuff
Dashboard has berated me for getting the wrong foe. The Casuals in fact beat Swift FC 5-0. Cupis did not score which is a shame because I bet my last pair of clean pants that he would. William Hill is now wearing my best undies.
The friendly cricket team have now won 7 on the trot equaling some ancient club recorded set whenwas DCii could still be found roaming free on Dartmoor. Collective breaths are being held to see if Brian can beat the record at the last match of the season in Corscombe at the weekend. If you fancy a weekend of camping and cricket you better get down to Devon.

Builders Balls
This appeared on facebook from Zoe:
Hi All
We’ve been asked if we would like to play the builders from the Junction 3 project in a footie game on Friday 30 September from 2.15 – 3.00pm. It would be 5 – 8ish a side (probably – it’s a bit loose!) on grass at Millpond school.
Eleanor, who is organising it has been in touch with me to ask this. I’d be happy to co-ordinate it and it would be good to put in a mixed team. Can you let me know if you would like to play?
Blurb she sent about it below….
We are setting up a couple of short games on Friday 30 September at Millpond Primary School. The school’s team will be playing the builders first at 2pm and it would be great if we could have a second match of local people v the builders at 2.30pm (time tbc).
Matches will be short, 25 – 30 minutes each.
It should be a fun afternoon and parents and friends will be invited along.
We are Davis and Jones, artists leading the public engagement arts programme for junction 3. We are setting up different events on and around the site to get local people and activities to be part of the development before it even exists.
