The Bristol Wirelss Pirate Radio Talk

Bristol Wireless will be hosting a fascinating talk on UK Pirate Radio in the 1960’s and 70’s on Wednesday 14th Jan at 8pm in The Zoo Bar, St Werburghs Community Center.

Our Treasurer Julien Weston will be talking of how and why the pirate stations came about, their fascinating and ongoing conflict with the UK government and the draconian measures the government eventually took to get the North Sea broadcasters off the air once and for all. The talk will feature original sounds from many of the pirate stations and stunning images from the North Sea. Julien tells us his talk will cover the ships, the transmitters, the music, the people – and unfortunately, the authorities. He will also reveal some curiosities such as why the pirate radio story really starts in 1660, how the UK government can still “legally” pursue its citizens anywhere in the world and what the link is between the radio pirates and the Lockerbie bombing of Pan-Am Flight 103. The Bristol Wireless bar will be open on the evening for your refreshment with all proceeds going to the Bristol Wireless project. The talk will last for one hour with plenty of time for questions and answers afterwards.

THE BRISTOL WIRELESS PIRATE RADIO TALK The Zoo Bar (Room 3) St Werburghs Community Centre Horley Road, St Werburghs BRISTOL BS2 9TJ Wednesday 14th Jan 8-9pm.

The Webgimp’s Christmas Message

Posted by on Dec 26, 2008 in Club News, Results/Reports | 0 comments

Well done to The Casuals (Veteran All Stars) for organising the Christmas Party. It was great to see all that facial hair in The Plough, The Webgimp got a little over excited in the same way that a peahen entering a room full of people fanning themselves might. Thanks go to Paul McCoch, Who’s Afear’d and The Surin’ Turnips for the entertainment, Angelo et al. for the cocktail bar and to the DJs for deeing and jaying. Also, a big thank you to those who were left behind – the bar – despit the large throbbing multitude there never seemed to be much of a wait to get served.

I am sorry that the results are late this week but The Webgimp has just emerged from running a rather bad fever, fever all though the night. It was a bit of a miserable weekend though, with Cowboys’ teams being knocked out of two cup competitions.

18/12/2008

The Cowgirls Lost to Red Thunder 3-7.

20/12/2008

Saturday A drew 1-1 with Cotswool in the league.

Saturday B lost 1-2 against Sneyd Park B in the all Saints Cup.

21/12/2008

The Sundays drew 1-1 with DKL Sports but ultimately lost 3-5 on penalties in the GFA Cup.

If you have the flu you have my sympathy. If you have not had it yet you also have my sympathy, because you will get it eventually.

The next Peashooter is out on Monday 5th January. If you have anything to go in it contact The Webgimp.

The Cowfolk And Watching Cup Football

Posted by on Dec 18, 2008 in Team News | 0 comments

Every season 3 of the mens football teams are in 2 cup competitions and the casuals are in one. It is not unheard of for some teams to be out of the cups by new year. Well this year could be different as at moment all 4 teams are still in at least one cup. So cowpeople come and support your cowboys teams in their cup football. You will never see the end result as a draw.

  • This Saturday sees the Saturday B team on the downs in the All Saints Cup.
  • Sunday morning you can wake up after the Christmas Party feeling rough and watch the Sunday Team in the GFA Cup.
  • On Saturday Jan 3rd the Sat First team have a huge challenge on the downs in the fourth match of their GFA Cup run.
  • Finally the Casuals team on Sunday Jan 4th have the next round of the CUP at A.X.A near Cribbs shoppin hell. Supporters to this match should have little trouble thinking up songs as the opposition are a team by the name of Hillcrest Doggers .

So the football teams are doin good, infact very good, but we can always appreciate supporters turning up . To all the readers of this make a note of the dates and come along and support your teams and hopefully one or more of the teams will have a cup final day for us all to go out and cheer on. For further info on kick off times and where matches are played phone nick dash.

Nobody Likes The New Website (Except In Istanbul)

Posted by on Dec 17, 2008 in Website News | 3 comments

It seems that quite a few people don’t like the new website very much. I am truely sorry about this, please picture The webgimp crouched in a corner sucking his thumb, curling his hair around a fingure and rocking backwards and farwards in a demented fashion. At least the website has made it in Turkey, or at least The Easton Cowboys & Cowgirls have.

The webgimp recieved a very nice email from Immo in Turkey. It reads:

HELLO FROM ISTANBUL, TURKEY!
We wrote about Easton Cowboys in our site.
We have a site called “dahke zine” (http://www.dahke.net) as hardcore punk and
football!!! we have prepared 7 issues about punk and football!

The article in question can be found here. The Webgimp can’t read Turkish but it seems to say something about Roger and Jasper.

Football Meeting And Results

Posted by on Dec 10, 2008 in Results/Reports, Team News | 0 comments

The mainly manly men’s football EGM was cancelled because Phil had a little oopsy on the field of play. In fact a boot stud went so far into his leg that it had to be amputated and they put a sticking plaster on it and kissed it better and everything. Baring more grizzly goings on there will be another attempt to discus the Saturday A Team moving leagues after football this Saturday (10/12/2008). The meeting will either be in The Plough or The Community Centre. For more details contact Nick D or Nige W.

04/12/2008

The Cowgirls lost 3-10 to Filton flyers.

06/12/2008

Both Saturday A and B Matches where postponed.

The basketball result has not been posted on the league site yet.

And neither have the netball results.

07/11/2008

The Veteran Old Stars match was postponed.
