Goal Meltdown
There is a new book out called Football VS. The State – Tackling Football And Radical Politics by Gabriel Kuhn published by PM press. There is quite a lot in there about The Easton Cowboys, FC Vova, Autonomos FC, Republica and the Mondiali Antirazzisti… oh yeh, St Pauli, Inter Milan, Celtic and The Zapatistas…. anyway on with the results – pausing only to ‘put some bacon under the grill’ 😉

The Futsal Team lost to top of the league Futsal Squirrels 10 – 6 and so have finished 2nd in this ‘season’. The new ‘season’ starts soon. If only they were called Futsal Cows they might have won, but since when have squirrels been better at football than cows?

Netball report thus:

The Saturday Suburbans lost 1-2 to Stoke Gifford United.
The Saturday A Team lost 1-3 to St Andrews.
The Saturday B Team beat Torpedo A 2-0.

There is a really weird story going around about Eddy, a nature documentary, a burnt bacon sandwich and an asthmatic. But on with the results, where the Sundays hammered Mendip SBW 12-1. Apparently being three goals down and reduced to 10 men the opposition were going to call it quits at half time but Eddy promised to take it easy on them in the second half; so he brought on A H-D, back from the jaws of death, who promptly scored a wonder goal.
The old men, who have all been very good this week and reported their results in triplicate, had mixed results. The Casuals won 4-1 against Avon Retreads. The Ultra Casuals lost 4-1 to Voyager.
After The Rain…Send Out The Dove
And it came to pass in the two thousandth and eleventh year, in the third month, the fifth day of the month, the waters were dried up from off the earth: and Eddy removed the covering of the ark, and looked, and, behold, the face of the ground was dry.
And in the fourth month, on the twentieth first day of the month, was the earth dried.
And God spake unto Eddy, saying, “If you think the flood was bad just wait and see what happens if you don’t bring the silverware home”.
And Eddy did spake unto God, saying, “God, I’ll tell you something son, if you think you got what it takes to play in the same team as Eddy ‘The special One’ Bridges… ” and God did wonder at his own choice of those he had placed upon the ark.
Yes you guessed it folks, it stopped raining long enough for a weekend of sport.

More Brain
It appears that I managed to post a blank post instead of the results. So here are the results from last weekend:
26/02/2011
The Downs League was rain affected again and the B Team had their game called off. The A Team lost to Tebby AFC 3-1.
The Suburbans did not seem to have a game either.
There was no Netball.
27/03/2011
The Sunday Team have had a great cup run and are in the final of the GFA Cup however, their league form has not been so good losing their last four matches. On Sunday they squared up to top of the league and local nemesis Lebeq coming away with an honourable 3-3 draw.
The Casuals had their worst result in living memory, but they are all getting on a bit so lets face it that is not actually that long. They will probably we employing selective senile dementia to wipe out the memory of a 6-1 walloping by SCS Vets.
Futsal
It seems that the Futsal Team have been playing lots of games without reporting any results. Naughty Futsal Team. So far they have played eight, won seven and lost 1. They played again on Tuesday but the website has not reported the results yet.
BGM Highlights
Here are some highlights from the Full Club BGM.
There is a list of possible tournaments on the Diary Page. It seems as though there will be no big European tournament this year and so a lot of people seem to be deciding to go to the Mondiali Antirazzisti. Dashboard is also taking a team to Freiburg. There is also a tournament in Argentina next January if anybody fancies a trip south of the equator, Punky is the man to speak to about this.
A weekend of camping and kicking for the kids is planned for the bank holiday weekend at the end of May. It will be at Beaches near Chepstow. Sue and Coops are the best people to talk to about this.
There is talk that the Cowfolk should put on a tournament next year to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the club. However, if there is tournament congestion it is possible that we may go for a 21st birthday party instead. Watch this space.
The Club Calendar has broken even but there are still some left. They are reduced to £5 each and can be bought from The Plough. Nige still has some attractive enamel badges left.
The end of season bash will probably be on the weekend of the 20th May. Eddy is the man to talk to about this, if you can get a word in edgeways that is.
Will says that the Bumper Book of Cowboys’ History will probably be finished by the Autumn so look forward to a glittering literary event to launch it.
Jess says that she is standing down as Chair of the Full Club. If anybody wants this position they should make themselves known.
Finally, congratulations to Stroddy and Mrs Stroddy who became proud parents of a son when the stork visited last week. However, Zoey seems to be hanging on for extra time and penalties.
The Great Flood And The Shit Tsunami
Well this weekend there was a lot of rain and a shit tsunami engulfed The Plough again. The Saturday football was off and there was no netball either.
The Sunday Team did manage to skip between the rain drops to get beaten by Avon Plate 0-2 although the Ultra Casuals were rained off.
It turns out CK FC, who the Sunday Team will play in the GFA Cup Final, have nothing to do with Calvin Cline, which is a huge disappointment. They are in fact Coopers Kensington and they boast that they are “Possibly the Greatest Sunday Football team in the world!!!!!!!” on their website. You can tell that Eddy doesn’t play for them because there is no way that he would have included the word “possibly” in that context.
The Cowboys Beat Liverpool And St Pauli (But Lose To Coventry)
It seems that last year, during the World Cup, the Cowboys came second in the Top 5 Football Moments (ever!) on an Australian and New Zealand socialist website called Socialist Aotearoa. The 5 were:
- Jack Kirby (Coventry City goal keeper) refuses to Seig Heil in Germany
- Easton Cowboys (Bristol) tour Zapatista autonomous communities
- St. Pauli player Benny Adrion sets up Viva con Agua (Water is life)
- Robbie Fowler – fined for supporting Liverpool dockers
- Palestinian team fights to qualify for the 2006 World Cup
And while we are blowing our own trumphet (neat link to Jericho here) there is a small article about the trip to Palestine on Israel Palestine Blogs.
Cup Final
In case you missed it the Sunday Team have made it through to the final of the GFA Premier Final (South) Cup FINAL. Here they will take on last year’s winners CK FC on Thursday 21st April 2001 at 19:30 hours. Yes, that is right, the Sunday cup final is on a Thursday. It’s the footballing world turned upside down init John. At the moment the GFA website have the ground for the final down as BAWA but that might just be because they have the Cowboys down as the home team.
In the semi final Karim Rendell scored a hat-trick and Drew collapsed and was taken to hospital. He is recovering and we wish him a well and hope to see him slotting the orb into the orifice gain soon (just to clarify this means scoring a goal).
The cup run in went like this:
Round 1 26/09/ Easton Cowboys (SUNDAY) 6 – 5 Beaufort
Round 2 31/10/10 Real Bristol 3 – 8 Easton Cowboys (SUNDAY)
Quarter Final 09/01/11 Easton Cowboys (SUNDAY) 8 – 4 Downend
Semi Final 13/02/11 All Saints 2 – 3 Easton Cowboys (SUNDAY)
Congratulations to Eddy (the Easton Cowboys’ very own “special one”) and his merry men. This is a big deal because if is the top tear of the GFA amateur cup structure.
